Author's Summary:
A shocking discovery sends the BAU to Cold Oak, South Dakota.

Review:
Oh man, I wish there was more of this! The Criminal Minds team tries to make sense of all the bodies left behind at Cold Oak without knowledge of the supernatural. Meanwhile, Andy is haunting Spencer trying to get help finding Sam and obviously, he couldn't have picked a worse person to be his medium because it's making Spencer think his worst fear is coming true and he's schizophrenic like his mother. This story stops way too soon, but what's there is a great read.

Title: 5 Mandatory Events at the FBI Regional Training Seminar
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] travelinthedark
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Genre: Humor
Pairing: Spencer Reid/Aaron Hotchner
Length: Very Short (2,111 words)

Author's Summary:
“Hey guys!” Jeff’s voice is just as upbeat as it was when he was telling the entire conference room about the wonders of community stewardship and his volunteer work as a ‘Big Brother.’ It’s also just as loud, and Hotch wonders if the guy realizes he doesn’t have to shout at people who are less than five feet away from him. “Are you ready to come up and add your ideas to the aspirations board?”

Review:
Found this through fancake and had a good laugh so had to rec it here. I love how its basically an ordinary scenario - fairly typical corporate team-building (typical, that is, assuming employers who care enough to try to build a team rather than, say, foster worker drones) - but because of the characters involved and their perspectives and the context of their lives, it becomes something ridiculous and the way they discuss that ridiculousness amongst themselves is really funny.

Length:Medium (22,837 words)

Author's Summary:
When Hermione Granger's parents are murdered custody goes to her mother's sister, one Haley Hotchner.

Review:
I love this fic!  The characterizations are awesome.  I love Hermione-dealing-with-trauma and Harry-coping-post-war, and especially both of them as quietly competent secret war heroes.  I also really like Hotch's point of view on Harry, Hermione, and magic and the insights he has on them from a profiler's perspective.  These two fandoms have very little in common and no compelling reason they should work as a crossover but this fic is perfect.  Sometimes in crossovers with young Harry in them, you get a crossover character who swoops in and knows just what to do to make it all better and it just flops as a story because of it, but that's not what this is.  Hotch and Hermione are really pretty equal as characters, both are really muddling through and the strong character arcs that result really make for a great story.

The BAU has to deal with a serial killer who believes he's hunting vampires. The unsub's name, Dean Winchester.

Review:
Not just the typical Crossover LEOs interrogate the Winchesters! This fic perfectly combines a Criminal Minds casefic with a Supernatural casefic. There's lots of action and relatively little sitting in interrogation rooms.

Title: Time Has Come series
Author: [livejournal.com profile] jujuberry136
Fandom: Supernatural, Criminal Minds
Genre: Crossover, Gen
Length: Long (Words: ~76k)

Author's Summary:
1. When Aaron Hotchner stepped into the interrogation room to interview one of the FBI’s most wanted unexpectedly apprehended earlier in the afternoon, he never thought the evening would end with bloodshed and rock references. Crossover with Supernatural.
2. A small Wisconsin town, a serial killer, and the Winchester brothers. There's no way this can end happily.
3. People are dying in New Hampshire, but Emily Prentiss thinks it’s a regular case until she spots Sam Winchester skulking near one of her interviews. When she calls his stupid-ass brother to yell at him for not giving her a heads up that they’re in town, Dean tells her Sam’s been dead for months. Dean’s out of the suburbs and on the road immediately because while he may have worked with the BAU before, there’s no way they’ll be able to deal with this – he’s not sure he is either.

Review:
Okay, so my perspective on Supernatural crossovers has been skewed by When Worlds Collide (which is so completely amazing), so while this fic isn't quite that good, it is still good objectively so if I don't sound as effusive as usual about a great fic, that's why.  Because the second story in particular is fantastic - the Winchesters think they're after a supernatural killer but figure out its actually a human serial killer which they and the Criminal Minds team must work together to catch. The first fic in the series is... a little formulaic (law enforcement crossover cast of choice puts a Winchester in their interrogation room and questions skeptically until a demon shows up)... but the second and third are so much better so don't give up on this series too soon.

“Portland, Oregon has requested assistance. They have a killer that likes to break bodies and he’s not particular as to whose.” The BAU tries to work with Detectives Griffin and Burkhardt to catch a sadist.

Review:
Great case-fic and great crossover.  It's interesting seeing Nick try to work the case with people he can't explain his leads to.  It's also cool seeing his Grimm skills from an alt POV.  Most of the characterizations are very good (Renard is a little fluffy compared to canon).  The case is great and fits the style of both fandoms very well.

Review:
Better than the author's summary makes it sound.  Good character voices, some drama and the crossover works.  Not really a ship!fic - even for a crossover ship it's on the light side (abandoned before a face to face between the two hacker lovebirds), but it takes two very interesting characters and adds drama, geekiness, and some flirting and get a good, if short, story.

Author's Summary:
There is an old Apache saying: You can take many paths to get to the same place.  Finalizing the divorce has left Hotch adrift and dangerously unfocused. When a case brings the BAU back to New Mexico, he finds himself thinking about an old acquaintance--and maybe, taking some time to sort out all the stuff in his head.

Review:
Very rare pair, but its really well-written.  There's hardly any fic about John Blackwolf at all actually, but he's very in character.  I like this ship fic because Hotch is usually the most in control, boss man type of personality in any story but in this one, he's absolutely not.  It's an interesting dynamic that I really enjoyed reading.

Length:  Medium (Words: 12,888)

Author's Summary:
1. Sometimes their conversations aren't exactly work related. Because really, what do zombies have to do with profiling?
2. When it comes to staying focused, robots are just as bad as zombies.
3. Morgan sits in on a gaming session.
4. Sometimes it's hard to block out the job, even when you're fighting evil wizards.
5. Courtesy of a certain Time Lord, Morgan finds himself being drawn further and further into the world of the nerd.
6. Letting Reid be the Dungeon Master meant that they would probably all be dead by the end of the quest.
7. All flights are cancelled, thanks to wild weather. Luckily, Garcia had planned for this eventuality. JJ and Rossi are morbidly curious, while Hotch surprises everyone.
8. Reid explains a recent scientific discovery. Morgan is much less enthused.
9. In which Kevin and Garcia make an impulsive life choice, JJ and Reid try to resolve some tension, and Hotch and Prentiss have a heart to heart – and that’s before they set off the rocket.

Review:
I love when canon includes good depictions of fans and fan culture like Reid and Garcia and Kevin on Criminal Minds.  In this series, Reid and Garcia bring their fandoms to work and it's crazy and awesome.

Review:
While the canon story of two average dudes triumphing over the combined forces of Heaven and Hell is truly awesome, I nevertheless have a serious soft spot for fics where one or both of the Winchester boys is an archangel and can really seize the reins of the whole Apocalypse plot and kick some traitorous angel butt, then get on with some original plot lines.  This one is well written and gets major kudos for the way it manages to handle the characterizations really, really well to balance the human and angel personalities and get characters you can recognize and believe.  My one and only complaint is there's not enough of this fic.

Fandom:Criminal Minds
Pairings: Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid
Genre: Romance, Drama
Length: Long (Words:83,648)

Author's Summary:
It isn't fair to compare Spencer to Haley—something Aaron tells himself every time he and Spencer are together—but he finds himself unable to stop. Aaron and Spencer work through the highs and the lows that real life brings, including the devastating attack by Foyet and Haley’s murder.

Review:
I'd give this fic 8/10 stars, I think.  It's well-written --- good spelling and grammar and the author knows how to craft a fic.  Mostly, though, I like how this fic deals with Spencer's N.A. involvement and I like that Hotch is strong despite having issues of his own (with an emotionally abusive relationship behind him).  I also like it because I think the characters' voices are captured well in this fic.  It's a relationship fic more than a romance fic, starting off with a tenuously established relationship which I think works if you want the pairing to work since this is a canon that doesn't really talk about relationships.  The main criticism I have of this fic is just that it's the ratio of smut to plot is a little high, especially considering that canon is a crime drama but this is just personal preference and plenty of fans might say there's no such thing as too much smut so YMMV.
