Title: Unexpected Results
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] elyssblair
Fandom:  Eureka
Genre:  Total AU-Magic, Corporate/Bureaucratic Fantasy
Pairing: Jack Carter/Nathan Stark
Length: Short (8,758 words)

Author's Summary:
In 1947, famous clairvoyant Jean Dixon convinced Truman to create a town dedicated to the study of magic and the occult.
The first time Jack came to Eureka, he’d ended up getting turned into a werewolf. Now he was back as Sheriff, and is surprised to find that his experience was a typical day for the town.
In addition to golems, ghosts and magical mishaps, now he has to deal with his inner wolf’s inappropriate crush on Nathan Stark.

Review:
A interesting total AU where Eureka is home to the best magical minds in the country instead of the best scientific ones.  It's a cool idea, well executed and explained.   It adapts the very first plot arc in the series with Walter and his family and though the story is a little brief for the size of the chosen plot, I still think its a good short one-shot anyways.  I would really love to see several sequels to it, adapting more than just the one episode to the AU so I hope the author decides to write on.  My only complaint is that I think Stark is a bit too accepting too quickly considering his character in canon, but I can justify that as maybe he is one of those people who just can't say no to an adorable canine (Jack makes friends with him first in wolf form, though Stark does know who he is at the time).

Fargo and Zane go ghost hunting in Global Dynamics, Carter gets dragged along, and they get an EVP from Stark. I love it.

Jack Carter/Nathan Stark, Deputy Andy/S.A.R.A.H., Allison Blake/Trevor Grant
Length: Medium (Words: ~12k and counting)

Author's Summary:
When Jack returned from 1947, he returned to a town with a different history than the one he left. When Nathan's particles were reassembled into a person, he returned to a different set of people than the ones he left behind.

Review:
Combines the post-1947 time travel universe reboot and associated confusion with the classic Bring Stark Back from the Time Loop plot.  Very good so far and updating frequently.

Title: The Un-cool Kind of Zombie Apocalypse
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kristories
Fandom: Eureka
Genre: General, Casefic, Humor
Length:  Short

Author's Summary:
"For the last time," Nathan bites out. "He is not a Zombie." Restrained on the bed Fargo moans 'braaaaaaaaaiiiiiinssss' and reaches for Nathan.

Review:
Not your typical zombie fic (nor even your typical Eureka zombie fic), that's for sure, but brilliant and awesome in its own right.  Jack Carter has to save the day (of course) and fortunately, as a normal non-brainiac in this town of geniuses, he is immune to the epidemic and uninteresting to the brain-craving almost-zombies.  In typical Eureka fashion, this fic has a light-hearted tone with plenty of humor.

Nathan’s displaced in time and it just figures that the only person he can even slightly reach doesn’t have anything resembling the knowledge to help him.

Review:
Nathan/Jack fic in the classic "re-sync Stark with time" genre.  Formulaic in places but there's a pretty good twist to it that I can't really explain without spoiling it.  Plus, it is a pretty good ship!fic.

The usual madness of Eureka in six snippets of cases that never made it onto the show.  Suits canon style and characterizations perfectly.

Teen Wolf, Eureka

Genre: Crack!fic, fusion crossover
Length: Short (Words: 4,508)

Author's Summary:
The one where they're all scientists in Eureka, and Stiles is being stalked by Derek's freakishly lifelike animatronic wolf.

Review:
This is a totally pointless but awesome crack!fic that's a fusion (characters from one story in the universe of another with little to no characters or plot from the second story).  If you happen to be a fan of both, this is a fun little oneshot.  It captures the Teen Wolf characters pretty well and the Eureka universe even moreso.

Genre: General

Review:
Carter has to come to terms with Stark's sudden death after the crisis with the "destabilizing time loop".  FYI, this one doesn't even have a hint of slash like many fics in Eureka fandom so if Jack/Nathan is your OTP, it may be a tad unfulfilling but if you can handle a friendship-only story, this one is lovely.  It's not a survivor's guilt story or anything - Jack's just saying goodbye so it's simply a nice fic about mourning the loss of someone you knew.

What if the new timeline was the original and only timeline? Here's how Season Four would have gone.

Review:
This Zane is spot on for Season 4's altered timeline - casually criminal but solidly a good guy, funny and really very clever.  Jo's spot on too, and seriously BAMF.  The dynamic between them is just awesome.  This fic also captures the style of storytelling from canon very well - even the silly-science.  And I like the enforced continuity with the removal of the alternate timeline - I never liked that about canon - the whole suddenly-unexplained backstory and the Retcon of a bunch of relationships - especially from a fanfic perspective where the best fics actually have to earn their breaks with canon reality.

Title: The Part Where You Let Go
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] enigmaticblue
Fandom: Eureka
Pairings: Jack/Nathan
Genre: Romance, Angst
Length: Medium (Words:17,651)

Author's Summary:
When Jack takes it upon himself to stop the time loops, it’s up to Nathan to bring him back.

Review:
During the canon time loop Eureka was stuck in, instead of Nathan Stark sacrificing himself to fix it, Sheriff Jack Carter does, knowing that he couldn't survive another loop with the damage each reset is doing to his body and that Stark is the best candidate for finding a way to fix the possible side effects of the procedure necessary to stop the loop.  There is just one promise Jack needs him to make first --- to take care of Jack's daughter Zoe.  When Jack does die, scattered to atoms out of sync with time, in the attempt, Stark does his best to be there for Zoe through the loss of her dad and he gives the project of bringing Jack back everything he's got.  That's what this story is about.  And as a result of that little butterfly effect storyline, Stark, through grief and intense focus on getting Jack back, comes around to seeing the canon banter he had with Jack as flirting and realizes he wants a relationship with Jack.  And being the brilliant scientist Stark is, he does manage to bring Carter back so the story gets a happy ending (but I should point out that I don't think telling you that is enough to spoil it for you so be sure to check this one out).

Fandom: Eureka
Pairings: Jack/Nathan, Henry/Kim, Jack/Allison
Genre: Romance, Time Travel
Length: Medium (Words:42,399)
Admin Note: rec'd on fancacke

Author's Summary:
When you’re messing with quantum mechanics and looping in time, you never can be sure how many times you’ve tried to correct the same mess. Because it is a time loop, because only a select one or two carry the memories, maybe the events of “Once in a Lifetime” were just one loop. And one time, maybe Henry got it just right for himself, and Jack, Nathan, and Allison didn’t manage to stop Henry when they sent someone back, causing the next loop, the events of episode 112, “Once in a Lifetime”. But those events don’t matter now. Because this is the story of the loop before. And while in quantum mechanics, it didn’t actually happen, in the heart, it did.

Review:
This fic takes a canon episode exploring alternate timelimes involving relationships established entirely offscreen and cleanly inserts another time loop involving one of the most popular fandom pairings (Jack Carter/Nathan Stark) without contradicting canon at all. This fic starts with a little Fridge Logic ("Why did Nathan walk away and go to San Francisco? Why didn’t Henry manage to shut down the experiment altogether?") and builds a great fic to answer those questions --- it's what has sparked tens of thousands of fantastic stories in fandoms like Harry Potter but it's not easy to make it work in Eureka's canon with it's twisted timelines, frequent time loops, and super-soft-and-squishy 'science' that serves up plot devices each episode.

I like this fic because it takes the relationship development slowly (compared to other Eureka shipping fics) and because it plays so very well with canon.  I found the non-linear storytelling a little tricky --- pay attention to the date tags for each section.  I also badly wanted a happy ending even though I knew from the start that I wouldn't get one for this non-canon pairing because the fic was designed to play well with canon.  Still, I think this is definitely one of the shining 10% in the Eureka fandom.

Title:  Science Made Them Do It (aka. NSP-3710/B)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] auntie_climatic
Fandom: Eureka
Pairing: Nathan Stark/Jack Carter
Genre: Humor
Length: Very Short (Words: ~6,000)

Author's Summary:
NSP – 3710/B referred to cases involving what Allison tactfully called Induced Misconduct and what Jo called the old Science Made Us Do It excuse.

Review:
Eureka is chock full of crazy and this is a fic that plays with that gleefully.  This fic is sure to put a smile on your face.  There's just one thing I don't like and that's that the formatting is off in this fic (extra spaces between paragraphs and some action tags paired with the wrong dialogue) and I find it just distracting enough to be frustrating.
