Review:
I really like this characterization of Mindy.  She's a badass little heroine who's had a twisted sort of upbringing and now she's having to learn how to be a normal little girl and even when that's so completely different to anything she knows that she's at a loss, it doesn't turn her into the vulnerable character most girls would be. Plus she's got serious attitude which is, after all, what made her character in the movie so awesome.  In this fic, she cares deeply about her friend but gets into trouble because she expresses it in ways that come across as twisted to most people but which make a lot of sense since its the way her father expressed his love for her.

Post-movie. Ordinary is a difficult thing to swallow. Mindy tries to deal.

Review:
A story about a hero trying to learn to be normal again - it's possibly my favorite theme in fanfiction (I've recc'ed several in SPN and Narnia fandoms already).  This is a tiny fandom but I love Mindy (aka Hit Girl) as a character.  She is admirable because of how capable she is as a badass heroine but also a very tragic character because the path she's had to walk to make her that hero has undoubtedly left her pretty twisted and she certainly has not had the kind of upbringing a little girl deserves (though her father was probably mentally ill to the point of not being culpable, her upbringing was abusive in ways she doesn't even understand).  Mindy in canon is a (dark) hero in the driven, powerful, take-no-prisoners, almost sociopathic sort of way that reminds me a little of [archiveofourown.org profile] burntcopper 's Narnia fic, National Service (that I recc'ed here).  I love Mellish's writing style here too because it works so well for the character.
