hkath’s prompt (Supernatural Summer Genfic Exchange): X-Files crossover: Sam&Dean and Mulder&Scully get in each other's way during a case.

Review:
Great casefic with John and teenage Sam and Dean on the same case as Scully and Mulder. These two 'verses don't always blend well together (sometimes Mulder is made to seem stupid for suspecting aliens of everything instead of supernatural forces) but this fic does a good job - in part because the Winchesters weren't entirely right either - but you'll see how that works out when you read it ;)

Genre: Crossover, Pre-series (Supernatural), outsider POV, character studies, Genfic
Length: Short

Author's Summary:
none given  (Mulder and Scully and John Winchester (with his teenage sons in tow) cross paths after unknowingly working the same case.)

Review:
This is a great pre-series fic for Supernatural and an outsider POV fic for both canons. It works so well in part because both sets of characters are in some way "in the know" about weird stuff though from different enough perspectives to not see eye to eye, and they don't understand the full significance of each other in the circumstances that they meet so the insights they get are different than they might be under "professional" circumstances like a lot of other Supernatural / law-enforcement-fandom-of-choice crossovers. I particularly like the little character insights this fic gives about each of the characters.

Title: Looking for Salt
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] dotfic
Fandom: X-files, Supernatural
Genre: casefic
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: Short (5,783 words)

Author's Summary:
Sam, Dean, Mulder, Scully, and zombies. Lots of zombies. Any questions?

Review:
Slow to start and shorter than I'd probably like, but I really love Mulder-and-Scully-meet-the-Winchesters fics and this is one of the better ones. It's a good casefic too, sort of splitting the middle between the styles of cases in both canons.

Title: Situational Ethics
Author: Merry
Fandom: Sentinel, X-files
Genre: Crossover (crossover pairing of choice turns out to be Sentinel/Guide)
Pairing: (implied) Mulder/Krycek
Length: Very Short

Author's Summary:
(None.)

Review:
This one is so short, it's more of a lengthy bunny or a short proof of concept than a full-fledged fic, but the characterizations are great and its got a lot of humor packed into such a short piece.

Fandom: Supernatural, X-files
Genre: Crossover
Length: Short (Words: 3,337)
Warnings: major character death

Author's Summary:
The F.B.I. guy roams across the country, searching for the truth, but Dean Winchester is the only one who knows the truth about him.

Review:
I love this crossover! It's so short, but Mulder gets to be seriously awesome. There's a lot of outsider POV of Mulder in X-files, but it's always so negative that I love the idea of the FBI agent as a legend among hunters who are all in the know on at least some of the same things (and yet still not quite enough that Mulder is welcome) - it's a great perspective.

Fandom:
X-Files
Genre: Romance, case-fic
Pairing:
Fox Mulder/Dana Scully
Length:  Very Long (Words: 106,520)

Author's Summary:
Scully's blind date with a charming doctor leads our favorite FBI agents to an unexpected X-File and forces them to confront their own feelings for each other.

Review:
Great X-Files style case-fic.  Mulder and Scully end up involved in a case of mysterious illnesses that seem to suggest the existence of soulmates.  And because you can't have a romance fic about soulmates not at least tease the main pair, Mulder and Scully start to come down with the same symptoms.  But this isn't a Because Destiny Said So romance - the incident merely leads Mulder and Scully to realize their love for one another.  There remains throughout the  equal possibility that the soulmate thing is all in their heads or actually real and it's never driving the plot.  The decision to act on it is entirely their own.  I think that makes it a better romance story. And it is a good, if slow, romance with really great characterizations and character voices.
