Dean is a sub who has been pretending to be a Dom his entire life, not even his family knows the truth. Dean's seen what the world has been like for his father since Mary died and doesn't want to be limited by his dynamic. He's strong, he takes care of his family, he hunts things that go bump in the night and saves people. Dean's protector, he doesn't need or want to be protected he wants to live his life and not worry about what society thinks he should be doing/not doing.

Eventually Sam finds out and tries to make Dean see that being himself, sub and all, isn't a bad thing.

Review:
I decided to give this fic a try because of the Identity Issues tag because I tend to find fics about that really interesting and this one didn't disappoint, especially with essentially-closeted!Dean dealing with a prejudiced world and family problems (canon and additional because of the AU).  I really like Dean's character here - especially the extent to which it isn't dictated by the AU - and the family relationships are great even with Dean feeling like he has no choice but to hide part of himself from them.
