Review:
Athey is another classic author in the Harry Potter fandom.  The time travel plot is complicated but extremely well-written and the cultural and political aspects are fantastic, even compared to other classic fics of the political genre in this fandom.  I like the characterizations of most of the characters - there's very minimal bashing even though Harry has reason to dislike Dumbledore in particular and various other Order members and Gryffindors in general.  Unfortunately, Athey's a serial abandoner of fics (not that I really have ground to stand on in that regard... but it's still disappointing) and has already said this one probably won't get finished but at more than 200k words already, there's a lot there to enjoy.

Review:
This is a very different romance than most that fanfic authors put out.  It's closer to a Regency Romance than a ship fic.  It's a really nice, light read.  Canon gives very little to go on about Wyldon's wife so there's a lot of original work in this story.  I also like how this story weaves the Lioness Quartet and Protector of the Small series.  It's really well done.  I think you could get by with limited canon knowledge for this one (basically: canon is a typical pseudo-medieval fantasy with knights and mages, most of canon follows individual knights-in-training and some of the knights mentioned are secondary and minor characters in those stories but since none of those main characters are involved, you don't really have to know that).  However, if you are familiar with canon, recognizing the characters maybe adds some depth to it that helps beef up an otherwise fairly short fic.  Anyway, this one is definitely worth a read, in my opinion and I'd actually go so far as to say it's sadly underappreciated (only 4 comments and 6 kudos on AO3).

Review:
Another Harry Potter fandom classic, "Gypsy Caravan" is so AU it has very little to do with canon and everything to do with the vivid and creative world, characters, and story the author weaves.  One caveat: I don't usually continue reading once Harry goes to Hogwarts (I think it tries too hard to be a generic fic after that and ends up suddenly suffering horrible characterizations that weren't a problem before).  That said, I have read the many thousands of words of Harry's early childhood over and over again and I always enjoy it.
