Length: Long (Words: 114,644)
Author's Summary:
When a chance meeting reveals Harry's planned fate to Lockhart, he knows what he has to do: rescue him and raise him as his own to properly manage his celebrity status. Harry gets a magical upbringing, Lockhart gets the Boy-Who-Lived...everybody wins!
Review:
Clever!Harry, raised among magic, and morally grey, this fic is great in all the ways its different from canon. It's well-written and despite using common tropes like Oblivious!Dumbledore and Slytherin!Harry, all the characters are well-rounded and presented largely free of bashing (Zacharias is set up as a nasty piece of work, but that's pretty close to canon, and Sirius isn't shown in a flattering way, but it's pretty much canon how badly he views Slytherin and Snape so I still think the portrayals are respectful). Because of this, this fic is great about showing new sides of maligned canon characters (like Lockhart! - he's actually sympathetic, if still slimy, and that more than anything reflects how good this fic is as an AU).
