Author: Wemyss aka [profile] gmwwemyss aka [personal profile] wemyss
Fandom: Harry Potter
Genre:
Romance/Life
Length:
Long

Author's Summary:
1. Harry and Draco are dreaming dreams. The same dreams. The same, possibly precognitive dreams. The Headmaster knows this. He also knows that trying to fiddle a prophecy is rather dicey: look at Oedipus at the crossroads, Tom Riddle at Godric's Hollow....
2. In the days after the death of Albus Dumbledore, Harry and Draco are once more dreaming the same, possibly precognitive dreams. What is dreamt and what is real is no longer certain, the times are out of joint, and the world waits upon their choices, upon the consequences of their dreams. Will they grasp the future that might be? And if they make the attempt, will all things turn to triumph - or to entrapment? Dreams are as dangerous as prophecies, and prophetic dreams as dubious as the Mirror of Erised....

Review:
The romance element in this story is... unusual, even difficult --- Harry and Draco are dreaming of their future together without any grounding in the present.  It's not a how-they-fell-in-love fic, it's a story about a couple living their life after the war.  But what I really like about this fic is that it really goes for English-ness, very nearly to the point of caricature, but in a fandom where even canon was Americanized for consumption across the pond, it's kind of nice to see it every once in a while.

Post-Series, Muggles
Length:

Author's Summary:
1. Dudley's thirtieth - and a reflective occasion it is, to be sure.
2. Many years after the War, Harry is chivvied into seeking out the last of the elder Potters, with some unlikely companions. Of course, the Fates have inventive ways of buggering up his life, particularly on mysterious Dartmoor.
3. What Dudley had noticed was that – having taken Elspeth’s tuition to heart, and concentrating nowadays upon his companions rather than his food (and stringently healthful food it was, under her hawklike eye) – he now noticed things, whilst others were talking across one another and stuffing themselves. Odd that a healthful dietary regimen had given him a character for acute observation, but there it was.
4. ‘The old [form of education] dealt with its pupils as grown birds deal with young birds when they teach them to fly; the new deals with them more as the poultry-keeper deals with young birds – making them thus or thus for purposes of which the bird knows nothing. In a word, the old was a kind of propagation – men transmitting manhood to men; the new is merely propaganda.’ – CS Lewis, The Abolition of Man, or, Reflections on education with special reference to the teaching of English in the upper forms of schools.  From the ‘Dudley Redeemed’ Prompt: no 28: ‘Arthur Weasley is fascinated by all things Muggle and Dudley could do with a decent father figure’: and so it was, too.
5. Dudley tells young Master Malfoy a few home truths.
6. In after years, Dudley lives quietly in the country with his family, and is always glad to see Cousin Harry. He’s made himself a countryman, has Dud; and as a countryman with knowledge of the Wizarding world, Harry finds him as useful and reliable as he now finds him a friend he’s proud to call cousin.
7. Rum sort of place, Elstead; rum sort of place, England: Dudley reflects upon fatherhood, upon St James’s Day. From the 2012 Dudley Redeemed Fest, the prompt being, ‘Dudley really wants to help his kid with homework. It’s just a little hard when the subjects have names like Herbology and Charms and Transfiguration.’

Review:
This is another series, also by Wemyss, that really takes its Englishness seriously.  I especially like the lyricism of Evensong on a Thursday in ordinary time.  Grown-up!Dudley's character is nicely done in this series too.
