Fandom: Supernatural
Genre: Missing Moments
Length: Short
Author's Summary:
Why did it take forty years (Hell-time) for Castiel to rescue Dean? In order to reach his charge, Castiel must face many trials, torments, and temptations. Alistair could be the villain of the piece, but Castiel might run into various spirits/ demons that Dean sent to Hell.
Review:
Chilling and beautiful descriptions and beautifully understated friendship/relationship foreshadowing more than make up for the gaping fridge logic holes here. I dithered about reccing this one because it shouldn't work - I just don't get the logic of why a Heaven that wants the Apocalypse would send Castiel immediately and how, if Castiel really was sent as soon as Dean died, why he doesn't feel the least bit guilty about not getting there fast enough (even if that explanation is supposed to be that non-falling angels don't feel guilt, it needed to be explained better). But this fic is really beautiful in ways that don't require logic. Can also be read with Dean/Cas or Cas/Meg ship goggles on.
