Title: Just Another Word (for Nothing Left to Lose)
Author:
blackkat
Fandom: Torchwood, Doctor Who
Genre: Science Fiction
Pairings: Ianto/Lisa, Ianto/Jack
Length: Medium (Words: 25,093)
Note: rec'd on fancake
Author's Summary:
Ianto’s records—the ones in the main computers, the ones Toshiko would have pulled when Jack asked her for a background check—show that he was a junior researcher assigned to a low-level science team. That’s not entirely correct, but then, Mainframe always protects her own.
Review:
Wow. Amazing story. The first chapter just sucks you in and the story unspools from there. The character of Mainframe is awesome and there's a really great sense of the way she sees the world, especially as Ianto starts changing into... well, I can't tell you without spoiling, but it's awesome. Geeky readers will like the console output-like computer speak. The computer queries that are Mainframe's style of thinking/talking are really cool too and add a lot to the story. I also love that this story actually uses arguably the best part of Ianto's character: his deadpan humor. Too many Ianto stories neglect that. This is a fantastic story with an awesome concept.
