The Impala went to heaven. That was the thing he clung to. Sam would share his heaven and so would his baby. He always knew she had a soul.
Review:
The Impala is so important to Dean. It's shown in a lot of ways in canon: there's the care he shows for it, how he rebuilt it from the devastation of the tractor-trailer wreck, and of course Chuck narrated at length on how it was much more than just a car in canon, but this fic tries to show it in a different way - with a few scenes of milestones in Dean's driving it that also represent distinct aspects of his life. There's one where he and his dad are going for ice cream before the fire and they're happy. There's one where Dean is only 11 and has to drive his injured father to the hospital when a hunt goes wrong. There's Dean and Sammy and Dean and Bobby, all with the Impala as mile marker.
