Kiera is not looking forward to a great Christmas, but it all works out...in the end.

Review:
A christmas fic that manages to inject some light into a very dark series without going so far that it isn't still very much Continuum.

Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Genre: BAMF!John
Length: Very Long (102,604 words)
Warnings: (author's list:) War, Violence and Torture in relation to War, flashbacks, PTSD

Author's Summary:
When a news story about a hostage situation in Afghanistan breaks, details about John Watson's military service come to light that the doctor had kept secret for a long time.

Sherlock is intrigued and John manages to surprise the British government. What John needs in light of this story and the PTSD responses it flares up, is a friend. Can Sherlock Holmes step up to the job?

Deals mainly with John's career and military background, plus epic friendship, BAMFness and a little bit of case fic.

Trigger Warnings for: War, Violence and Torture in relation to War, flashbacks, PTSD

Review:
This is a great competence fic, but also a great John character fic.  This story really features John Watson amazingly well, detailing some of the backstory to explain his military career and focussing on one event in particular where John was very BAMF indeed, but it got covered up for a while.  The story starts when that cover up breaks and follows the fall out and various characters dealing with the news - John and his friends, of course, but also Mycroft aka The British Government.  My only complaint is that Sherlock has some moments that are very out of character for the BBC version (kind of more in line with ACD canon) but other characterizations are good.
