Title: Eyes Like A Highrise
Author: [livejournal.com profile] revelininsanity
Fandom: Southland
Genre: Character Study, Genderswap, Friendship/Mentorship
Length: Very Short

Author's Summary:
When Ben(ita) Sherman gets ambushed in the parking lot after work, it's pretty much not John's job to save her, but what the hell. He hasn't really got anywhere better to be.

Review:
I think this may be the first (possibly only) Southland genderswap I've found and I really like it. While it has the right tone/word choice for the show, It's not quite that canon style - but in a good way because honestly, the point of canon was to get you to care about the characters just so the plot could chew them up and spit them out and sometimes I just want something more positive, with Benita and John getting along better. I think the characterizations are great. John's a lot softer towards Benita than Ben but in canon, he was that way to his female friends, Chickie and Tang, so it works. And I love Benita's characterization - she's got Ben's drive and motivations, his toughness. It's a nice, though very short, character fic/genderswap.

Title: Small medium, large headache
Author: A.A. Pessimal
Fandom: Discworld
Genre: Gen, Minor Characters
Length: Short (9,601 words)
Admin Note: rec'd on fancake

Author's Summary:
An idea that span out of "Rincewind and the Redskins". To a psychic medium, attracting a Red Indian spirit guide is like getting David Beckham to play for your pub team. But sage, wise and kindly? You can get the wrong sort of Indian... stars Mrs Cake.

Review:
A.A. is reliably a very good writer and this fic is no exception. This story is well-written and entertaining to read, though it is more serious in tone than canon. Like Jingo, it deals with themes of race and prejudice and the habit residents of the Disc have of being completely flumoxed when their expectations on the power of belief fails to bring their most foolish beliefs and prejudices to reality.
