That is the nicest Werewolf legend I’ve ever heard of.

here you go, (also maybe read this series bc omg y e s), the fanmix i made a while back was for stiles in this series, because he kicks some major ass

Review:
Another good cover for this excellent series. This one I think doesn't tell you quite as much about the story itself, but I still like it as a book cover because it grab attention and entice readership. I also really appreciate the layout and proportions of this cover - a lot of attention was clearly paid to that and the typesetting and it definitely paid off.

Author's Summary:
This is a cover I drew for the awesome fanfic series Wolf Whistle by the awesome and oh so lovely Ashinan
(a Teen Wolf fanfic, in case you want to know, and this here is Stiles Stilinski - the awesomest of them all)

I honestly wasn't supposed to do this - it was just a random sketch that slowly but surely grew into this - but I like it a lot now that it's done.
And yeah, it's slightly similar to that other cover I drew a while back but SHUSH! They're both pretty!

Review:
I love the use of color and transparency in this cover to create the right magical horror atmosphere. The composition is also strong. For the sake of remembering the fic it goes with, I wish she'd added some of the rune papers into the background, but that's a minor thing and the work as it is is very good and also well matched to the story it represents.

Title: give your heart to a wild thing
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] kenopsia
Fandom: Sherlock BBC, His Dark Materials
Genre: daemon AU, kidfic (Sherlock and Mycroft as kids - pre-canon)
Pairing: Sherlock/Victor Trevor
Length: Medium (31,720 words)

Author's Summary:
Mycroft is just hoping he doesn't have to kill Sherlock's daemon in her sleep to help Sherlock live to see adulthood. It might as well be his prime directive, because nobody else seems capable of doing it.
A His Dark Materials fusion that follows the Holmes brothers from childhood.

Review:
This isn't your typical daemon AU - it's just as much a fic about Sherlock and Mycroft growing up and it does that really well. It does some interesting things with daemons too as it looks at mental and personality disorders in world with daemons - Sherlock's daemon hates him and, despite taboo, Sherlock is very close to Mycroft's daemon.  The fic as a whole has good characterizations and the friendship/sibling relationship between the brothers is lovely.  This one isn't finished and I hope the author will continue.

Title: Northern Lights
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] silver_sun
Fandom: Rivers of London, Shetland (no knowledge of Shetland, a British police procedural TV show, is required to read this fic)
Genre: Casefic, Crossover
Pairing: hints at future Peter/Nightingale
Length: Medium (48,026 words)

Author's Summary:
The theft of three Pictish stone carvings from a museum in London lead Peter and Nightingale to Shetland. The reason for the theft is clear: The stones are ancient storage devices for magical energy. Who took them and why is a lot less so. That Shetland has its own mythology and magics which are far closer to that of Scandinavia than London doesn't help matters.
Between the lack of information, the cold and wet January weather and Nightingale's cold, Peter can't help but wish they were back in London.

Crossover with Shetland. No knowledge of Shetland, which is a police drama set in Shetland, is needed. The story is from Peter's POV, and any information about the three detectives, DCI Jimmy Perez, DS Alison 'Tosh' McIntosh and DC Sandy Wilson, who make up the core cast of Shetland will be found out where needed as Peter does.

Set post Broken Homes for Rivers of London and after series one of Shetland.

Review:
I really enjoyed this fic. The case was interesting and perfectly suited to the canon universe. The way the investigation progressed was believable and well-paced. While I like Thomas/Peter shipping well enough, I still prefer genfic so that may be why I found that aspect of the story to be out-of-character - otherwise, the characterizations were pretty good. I do think this fic badly needed to be proofread (badly enough that I stopped reading it on my ereader after the first chapter and opened it up in my laptop in calibre's editor and fixed my epub as I read -- if you're a serious grammar nazi, message me and I can send you a copy because I really don't want people to avoid reading this fic because it wasn't beta read). It also suffered from the same flaw as Midnight Riot where it tells what was just said in description rather than just giving the dialogue. This makes for a lot of long paragraphs and, at times, a slow pace to what could have been a page turner.

Review:
How did this fic sit on my ereader for so long and not get read?! This is an amazing fic with epic plot and some seriously clever twisting of notoriously-unlogical Whoniverse canon into shapes that actually make sense. I won't say this fic is without faults and a few teeny tiny plot holes of its own but it's so very good anyways.

So this fic is a Miracle Day AU that doesn't just reject canon reality and substitute fan's ship of choice - but wait, don't run away yet! I hated Miracle Day and this fic actually changed my mind about it a little bit - if this fic were Season 5, it would all be okay again.

Basically, Ianto and Amy and a Time Agent OC - who fits very nicely into the spectrum of dis-functionality of other Time Agents we know from canon - end up trapped in the Time Agency after it was destroyed and have to figure out why they're there, why they can't leave, why they all remember different timelines, and, once that's sorted, how they're going to stop reality from falling apart while also saving the human race from The Miracle. It really is an amazing fic. There's only one problem I have with this fic and that's that the villain's accomplice (who I can't name without spoiling) starts out alright but becomes very one dimensional in the end - this, as you will understand, might actually be considered a plus to some fans, but to me it could have been a little less heavy-handed at least. I actually loved the villain himself though - zero complaints there.

Review:
I've yet to read the fic this story illustrates but I added it to my reading list because of this cover art. There's some great design choices here and clearly the artist has strong technique and can manage lots of layers. The colors are vibrant and I love this artist's use of fandom icons - the little Sherlock head with the fandom text - that's very nicely done and helps show what to expect from the story. I love the use of the white moonlight to draw the eye from the moon at the top to the title and author to the grass at the bottom. I also LOVE the font - I wonder if it was hand drawn or downloaded from somewhere? The lighting between the layers of tree branches is done well too. My only slight criticism would be that its very busy and some great details like the bats and the jack-o-lattern get lost to the tree branches. Otherwise, I love it.

Fandom: Teen Wolf
Genre: Next Gen, Time Travel, Romance, Families of Choice
Pairing: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski, Chris Argent/Peter Hale, Allison Argent/Isaac Lahey/Scott McCall
Length: Long (48,181 words & counting)

Author's Summary:
Thirty years in the future, a coven of warlocks threatens the safety of the Hale Pack. When the chief warlock decides to travel back to a time when the pack was a broken shadow of what it will be, Ash and his brother and sister follow him into the past in a last-ditch effort to protect their family. However, when they arrive they find that the warlock is going to be the least of their problems. Not only do they have to stop the warlock before he kills anyone and keep themselves from altering the future too much, but there's also the Alpha Pack to contend with.

Review:
I'm eagerly anticipating updates to this story. I've read a lot of "OTP's future kids travel back in time and get their parents together" stories and they usually suffer from bad characterization, forced shipping/plot problems, and questionably causality. Not so, this fic. I absolutely adore the characterizations. Stiles is smart and self-assured, Scott is a typical teenager, Peter is just the right balance of creepy and loyal... and the kids are fully-formed and very believable as characters in their own right. I love the slow reveal of their exact relationship with the various pack members and I especially I love that Stiles is the second (after Peter who has super senses and experience to rely on) to figure it out and it's this "oh... oh my god," kind of moment. There's some great feels in this fic too, especially when the kids talk about their pack members in such loving terms - really the whole pack-as-chosen-family theme is strong in this fic, and that's one of my favorites so that's one more reason I love this fic. Depending on how the rest of the story goes, I might upgrade this fic's score tag, that's how much I like it :)

This casefic revolves around a purely magical problem that The Nightingale and His Apprentice have to solve (as opposed to a crime for DCI Nightingale and Constable Grant).  This leads it down the path to a really delightful plot twist :)  or is it a characterization twist?  Well anyways, I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it to other Rivers fans.

Review:
Creative and evocative story. AU where Ianto is different (some of the differences are explained but there's also foreshadowing that never gets as far as the reveal) and repeatedly makes very different decisions but still very much the canon universe, just filled out a lot more with detail. Ianto is pretty awesome in this one and so are both Jack and John. Tosh and Owen are also very likable and clearly competent in their own rights. This fic hasn't been updated in awhile which makes me very sad because it's fantastic but even what is there so far really deserves a read.

Author's Summary:
When Derek is killed by a rival alpha, the pack will stop at nothing to get him back. Even if that means blackmailing the most dangerous hunter duo this side of hell. Whatever. That whole devil thing was probably totally exaggerated, anyway.

Review:
I let this one sit bookmarked but unread for months, I think mostly because of the title and how these two fandoms don't mesh easily, but this fic did a really good job with the latter.  One of the ways that is accomplished is summed up by Sam: "The Argents are to werewolves what we are to demons, Dean."  The "hold the door" thing refers to Lydia and what she can apparently do with the doors between the realms of the dead and the world of the living as a result of Peter's curse (this is from before Teen Wolf canon decided she was anything but human).  This fic starts out with BAMF!pack, which is great, and quickly goes to dark and scary places literally and figuratively.  The events in Purgatory are properly horrifying while at the same time getting some feels in both when Benny's return and as Laura meets Derek and explains how Purgatory works as a place good monsters pass through to get to heaven where the rest of their family is waiting for them.  Overall, this is a good fic and Maichan's cover art is lovely too.

Fandom: Grimm, Sherlock BBC
Genre: Crossover, Casefic
Pairing: Mary/John, Juliette/Nick, Monroe/Rosalee

Author's Summary:
Detectives Nick Burkhardt and Hank Griffin investigate a series of incidents when Portland becomes host to a series of dangerous, unprovoked riots and an international serial killer. In London, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have their own string of odd cases that eventually create a rift between Lestrade and Sherlock.

But when a double homicide attracts international attention, the consulting detectives collide with an American who seems to have incredible insight into not only the current case, but their recent oddities. Unfortunately, his odd secrecy makes him more enigmatic than helpful, and his presence seems to attract an undue level of violence.

National and investigative rivalries, hidden knowledge, and a dangerous political movement cloud the work of an American Grimm and the consulting detectives.

Review:
This is a really twisted casefic written for the Case Story Big Bang and it keeps you guessing, even if you do know both fandoms well. It's written in the converging plotlines format so the two fandoms start out fairly separate and slowly converge. I sometimes felt like it was a little disjointed or not quite fully thought through, but it's overall a good fic. The art for the fic, by [archiveofourown.org profile] mella68 , is also fantastic and captures the mood of the fic well.

Review:
This fic is AMAZING! It's hilarious and clever and wonderfully well-written. I love the OC, Sister Felicity - she's just fantastic and really compelling and as a cop-turned-nun, she's very, very interesting. Also, while I guess some people would find her particular expressions of faith blasphemous, I actually really like and respect her kind of devotion in the sense that she's a work in progress but stronger in her faith for the struggle (even though, I have to admit, there are times when I caught myself thinking she's such a fantastic character that she's wasted as a nun - awful of me, I know). This really is a must read, especially since Supernatural canon has such a dearth of decent female characters. The first chapter is a bit slow (its more of a prologue, imo), but the story really takes off from the start of Chapter 2, so stick with it. This story seems to be written between Seasons 4 and 5 or possibly during Season 5 so no spoilers or canon knowledge required from canon after that point.
