Was this what they saw when they looked at him, the Doctor wondered – a creature far beyond any simple understanding, ancient and dangerous and all too perceptive?
Review:
Though less than 1000 words, this fic has a lot to say about the characters of the Doctor and Jack. It's one of those fics where we see Jack so far in the future that it takes him a bit to put a name to the face that was once familiar. Jack is still getting attached to underdog civilizations and becoming their champion (which is equal parts awesome and tragic) when the Doctor swans in and, in seeing his once-protégé in action, has to face some perhaps uncomfortable views of himself.
