Takes place in an alternate sixth year. Draco has a secret: he is a wizarding genius and is being pressured to take the Dark Mark. Bill Weasley got a job teaching Ancient Runes at Hogwarts, but he too has a secret: he is spying for the Order. What happens when these two discover each others secrets? Can they help each other survive the year?
Review:
This is an epic and something of a fandom classic. I like the depiction of genius!Draco as smart but still pretty in character and still being a teenager even with those smarts. Bill's pretty awesome too, and Tonks when she makes an appearance. I think what I like best about this story though is the real sense that the war - and the world in general - at times just seems to dwarf Draco. There are very few stories that manage to depict that helpless, overwhelmed feeling that I think most reasonable people would have if they were swept up by the sort of high fantasy epic where the world is at stake and the Big Bad wants everyone dead or suffering in painful servitude but this one does, and it does it without managing to let the angst of that overrule a great plot.
