Title: The Anecdote of the Amnesiac Apidistra
Author:
AJHall
Fandom: Torchwood, Sherlock BBC
Genre: Crossover, Paranormal?, Outsider POV
Length: Short (Words: 4,259)
Author's Summary:
"You're trying to take on Torchwood armed only with a half-naked woman and a boa-constrictor?"
"You can admire the insane brilliance of my strategy later."
"Outside the Government" isn't a mission statement calculated to appeal to Mycroft Holmes. But in order to enlist his younger brother to help him solve the Torchwood Problem he needs to pique his interest. By way of bribe, he can offer him access to the classified files on most intriguing collection of cold cases known to man - all centred on Cardiff.
The game is on, but this time both Holmeses are hunting in tandem and Torchwood is their prey.
Review:
This one is really quite strange and a little disjointed and I can't decide if is feels complete or not, but it's fun and a little bit chilling and a good kind of weird. There isn't really a plot so don't try this one expecting to see an epic struggle between the Holmes brothers and Jack, Ianto, and Torchwoods tech play out. It's more of a character and world piece and some of an outsider POV too. I like the end especially, even though I'm not quite sure what to think of it - is Mycroft messing with Jack's head, or does he have a diflannwyr that inspired his crusade against Torchwood, or is the threat from actual ghosts? The writing style is cool too though it makes it hard to figure out what's happening at first - it would be really well suited to an original story though (maybe a historical spy thriller or mystery with some larger than life characters).
