Title: On Being Female
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] nomadicwriter
Fandom: Discworld
Genre: General, LGBT, Character Study
Length: Short (Words: 1,141)

Author's Summary:
It began, as did so many bewilderments small and large, with a declaration by Captain Carrot.

Review:
In this fic, Carrot tells Commander Vimes about joining the Dwarf Women's Guild which requires its members identify as female, so basically it's Carrot saying he identifies as female. Vimes finds this understandably confusing. Carrot, well, sometimes I think the best thing about Captain Carrot's character is how totally uncomplicated he finds things. It's a very interesting look at Carrot as a character and gender as the dwarves of Discworld see it (though fyi, the fic won't make sense if you're not already familiar with canon dwarfish ideas about gender).

Title: Whole New Worlds
Author:[archiveofourown.org profile] cest_what
Fandom: Disney
Genre: Space AU
Length: Short (Words: 1,141)

Author's Summary:
"Wait, no, wait, don't shoot!" Belle cried, hopping and untangling a cord from her foot as she followed the robot into the workshop. "Chip, it's all right, she's the ship's security officer. She's a friend."

Review:
I am finding out that I maybe have a small weakness for Disney Princesses in Space fics. I somehow missed this one last Yuletide. This one is very short, but I like the little the small details of world-building in particular.

Title: In The Blood
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] copperbadge aka [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge aka [personal profile] copperbadge
Fandom: Discworld
Genre: AU, Character fic
Pairings: Sam Vimes/Sybill Ramkin
Length: Medium (Words: 17,360)

Author's Summary:
Sam Vimes's hatred of lycanthropy is suddenly much more personal than he ever expected.

Review:
Great concept!  I love Angua's characterization and how she deals with Vimes throughout, I think the pack is very well-written, and spoilers --- a lot of what I like about this fic I can't properly explain without spoiling but seriously, if you like Vimes then this is a must-read.

Title: Not a Slow News Day
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] Amilyn
Fandom: Early Edition
Genre: Case-fic
Length: Short (Words: 6,645)

Author's Summary:
It's a long day of keeping Chicagoans alive and safe. Cat and the paper keep Gary running from the moment he gets up.

Review:
This fic could be an episode itself - there's quite a few cases happening on this day for Gary and his friends (I always wondered how a person could do this every day, nevermind the whole job/money-to-live-on issue). Requires some knowledge of the show but it's okay if it's been awhile - you won't need details, just basic name recognition of the characters.

Title: Letter to a G.I.
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] DyrneKeeper
Fandom: Glee
Genre: Romance, Actor AU, Story-within-a-Story
Pairing: Kurt/Blaine
Length: Medium (Words: 59,406)

Author's Summary:
Cast opposite the successful actor and performer Blaine Anderson as a romantic lead in a historic drama Kurt, a relative newcomer to the screen, has to learn to navigate his relationship with his character – and with his co-star.

Review:
Decent as both an Actor AU and a Kurt/Blaine romance but what really won me over was the story within a story - the movie they're shooting based on a true story of a WWII military gay romance (actually, I could have had a bit more of that, but it works like it is too).
