Title: Change of Atmosphere
Author:
darksquirrel
Fandom: Grimm
Pairings: none
Genre: General
Length: Short (Words: 16,950)
Author's Summary:
AU where Marie Kessler never made it to Portland. Nick and Monroe end up meeting in a slightly less dramatic fashion.
Review:
I really like the premise of this fic --- Nick thinks he's going crazy because of what he sees as a Grimm and has a pretty rough time because of that. I think Monroe's voice is fantastic and Hank's is pretty good too. Also, I like that the author gave them tasers as well as guns which is pretty common these days and neatly avoids the issue of Hank shooting a fleeing suspect in the back in the pilot episode. That said, I do have one problem with the fic: the premise of the fic is "What might Nick's life have been like if Aunt Marie hadn't made it to Portland to explain the Grimm thing to him?" but the conclusion of the fic is "We finally got the guy who killed the girls." It's like the problem presented at the beginning doesn't match the resolution at the end. The resolution that matches the initial problem is relegated to sort of an afterthought like "btw, someone finally told Nick what he was seeing was real." But it's still a great fic and a couple of scenes in particular are just fantastic so I'd still give this fic a 4.5/5 --- definitely worth a read.
