Review:
A.A. is a well known writer in Discworld fandom and brings a dry, often underplayed sense of humor to his work.  His characters are always fantastic and Alice Band is no exception.  She really shines in this story.  Knowing what happens in Lords and Ladies, there should be a sense of foreboding as naive young Alice sets out to dig the great neolithic monuments of Lancre.  She's got Granny, Nanny, Magrat, and Greebo taking a keen interest even though she'd rather they didn't, but this isn't what allows her to live long enough to learn the perils of over-confidence - this really is Alice's story.  While I think the scenes could be better developed/elaborated and connected together (the story jumps around a lot with each chapter and between the framing device, the actual plot, the recollections of the main character, and the commentary by the witches) the story is still well told and interesting.
